Adventure Day One

May 4, 2008- Today’s blog is simply to set the stage on our life prior to the call Rickey received on October 11, 2002 that he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, AML Leukemia.  The outlook was not in his favor giving him an expectation of living only two to three years. 

 

Life before October 11, 2002 was anything but boring – full of work, family and living for the weekends!  Both Rickey and I had successful jobs in the city and we were very much like most couples whose children were grown, we both held down 9-5 jobs – early to rise – a short conversation over morning coffee, longer if we got up extra early.  We would head off to work in different cars; traveling over an hour each way in Washington, DC traffic to get to our offices.  Most week days we did not slow down long enough to have much quality time during the week – our time together was on the weekends – and they were always filled to the brim!

 

Our weeks ran together and our weekends would fly by – but our love was strong – the strength we would need for our journey that was ahead of us – strength we did not know we had –or that we would need.

A Love Note from PJ

 

Dearest Rickey,

You are the most important person to me in the world.  You are my love, life and my best friend.  I thank God everyday that you are in my life and that you are so wonderful.  I could not be as strong as I am without you behind me encouraging me as you do. 

I know there are times when I make you crazy and make your head hurt, but you continue to support my work and my ambitions.  I am truly thankful for you and your understanding.

I smile every time I think of you.  Your warmth and energy surrounds me and I feel safe, even when I am miles away.

Know that I love you and am forever yours.

Dearest Honey Bunny,

No, YOU are the most important person in MY life!  Loving is giving and helping the one you love to grow.  Not always easy, but that is what love is/does.  A day doesn’t pass that I don’t think of how blessed I am that the hypnotist did a great job.

Life goes so fast, in the midst of it all hopefully we stop and say the things that we feel, we take the time to do the three “A’s”; pay attention to those we love, show affection to the most important people in our lives, and tell them we appreciate them.  You never know when one phone call will change your life forever – and you can’t go back and get a “do-over” – do it now!
