Adventure Day One

June 11, 2008 –Since October 11, 2002 it is fair to say that Rickey and I have embraced our journey and held tight to our happiness.  Sometimes it requires a significant emotional event for you to take happiness off hold and place it center stage – but the reality is that if you wait for the right time, the right place or the right event – you may miss the opportunities right in front of you.

The Adventure Continues

Hello to All,

This adventure is flying by, it seems like only yesterday we found out our life was changing and now we are gearing up for Monday at 8:00 AM for the first big milestone, the retesting of Rickey’s bone marrow.

Rickey’s spirits are very high.  His chemo finished on Day 7 and he received one day of blood transfusions and one day of platelets since then.  All the doctors say he is doing exceptionally well and have the highest hopes for a favorable biopsy on Monday; the results will take 48 hours.

Visitors have been spaced well to ensure he gets enough rest and stays germ free.  I have been making daily runs to Starbuck’s to ensure life stays as normal as possible, for both of us.

Today’s outing was a 30 minute walk to see all the gardens here at the hospital from the window walk ways, plus a virtual tour of the fall colors in the Shenandoah Valley on the internet.  For a special treat, we ordered Outback Carry Out and Rickey was able to enjoy ribs with Game Six of the World Series.

I want to thank all of you for your kind words and continued support through all of this.  The following came to me in an email from a friend just this week, it says it all…

 

Happiness on Hold

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated that the kids aren’t old enough and we’ll be more content when they are. After that, we’re frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage.  We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, are able to go on a nice vacation, or when we retire.

The truth is, there’s no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when? Your life will always be filled with challenges. It’s best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway. Happiness is the way.

So, treasure every moment that you have and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time with…and remember that time waits for no one.
So, stop waiting
* until your car or home is paid off
* until you get a new car or home
* until your kids leave the house
* until you go back to school
* until you lose ten pounds
* until you gain ten pounds
* until you finish school
* until you get a divorce
* until you get married
* until you have kids
* until you retire
* until summer
* until spring
* until winter
* until fall
* until you die

There is no better time than right now to be happy. Happiness is a journey, not a destination.
So-work like you don’t need money,
Love like you’ve never been hurt,
And dance like no one’s watching.

Take the time to live!!!
