Adventure Day One – Crying is Rain for the Soul
November 16, 2008 – No one likes to cry, especially if you are suppose to be the strong one. I never cried in front of Rickey at the hospital, except once. I had my reasons ~ I was suppose to be the strong one, I was the one who knew all the details to share with the nurses and the doctors and I was the one family would turn to for strength. I sure didn’t need to be a wreck in the face of uncertainty – others needed to cry and they needed to know I was strong - you gain strength from other’s strength. But once I started walking from the hospital room down those long empty halls to the parking garage so very late at night the strength I showed to others melted away. By the time I climbed into our SUV to start the lonely drive home my eyes were swelling up and before I even I got on the road the tears were flowing down my face, like rain. Crying is like rain our souls release to heal our broken hearts and nourish us to face another day.

I know you are under what must seem like almost insurmountable pressure to be the strength, the hope for Rickey. But none of us are capable of handling all that you are dealing with, alone. Please know that you are not alone. There are angels all around you and when you feel you are at your darkest hour, you will find that if you turn your heart to your spiritual home, God will pour out His incredible love and comfort, giving you the strength you need to carry on. I have a plaque on my office wall that symbolizes God’s promise to us: “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
If you just take time to meditate on this verse you find a very important promise that has gotten me through some very tough times, especially over the last couple of years.
I promise you that you and Rickey will make it through this very trying time, and you both will be stronger than you can ever imagine as a result of it. Remember that God will not give you more than He feels you can handle. It’s just that sometimes we don’t think we can make it any further, but we can! You just have to believe you can…
These inspiring words from a friend couldn’t have come at a better time, I needed to know I was not alone and needless to say I cried after I received this email. People need to seek sunshine and strength during their most challenging adventures – who needs you to be their sunshine today? It is your turn to shine bright and embrace someone who needs your strength; it’s good for your soul.
Until our next blog – remember life is an adventure, embrace the journey. You can make a difference one day at a time.
